Happy May Friends!
Sometimes I think Merida and Eddy are better at setting boundaries than I am.
They clock in when they feel like it, demand snacks with zero guilt, and walk away from stressful situations like royalty.
So in honor of my two live-in wellness coaches, here are ten things they’ve taught me about work-life balance:
1. Nap like it’s your job.
Rest isn’t optional. It’s a pillar of greatness. Merida insists.
2. Don’t answer emails after 6 p.m. (or at all, if you’re Eddy).
You can’t reply if you’re draped across the keyboard.
3. Claim your space.
Be it a sunbeam, a cardboard box, or the middle of the couch.
4. Hiss (gently) when someone invades your boundaries.
You don’t owe your peace to anyone else’s comfort.
5. Show up for play.
Even five minutes of silliness can reset your whole mood. Eddy recommends laser pointers and catnip bananas.
6. Take snack breaks seriously.
Pausing for treats is a power move.
7. Look out windows.
Daydreaming counts as productivity when you’re processing feelings.
8. Refuse to rush.
Urgency is not a virtue. Neither cat is impressed by your to-do list.
9. Don’t compete. Just stretch and yawn dramatically.
Confidence is silent. Stretching on someone’s keyboard is a power statement.
10. Cuddle when it matters.
Connection > productivity. Every time.
These two remind me daily: softness is not a weakness, and balance doesn’t have to be boring.
Sometimes it purrs. Sometimes it naps on your notes.
