Welcome to My Living Room (and My Brain)

Meet the Cats Behind the Crochet

This blog wouldn’t be complete without an introduction to the two fluffballs who run my home, hijack my meetings, and supervise all things yarn, naps, and justice.

🐱 Merida

Nicknames: Mama, Princess Merida, Merida Bernice (when I can tell she means business).
Age: 10
Likes: Warm laps, soft blankets, being left alone (unless she asks).
Dislikes: Eddy’s antics, skipped meals, being misidentified as “just a cat.”
Superpower: Intimidating people twice her size with a single look.

Merida is my oldest companion and the heart of our home. She’s got wisdom in her whiskers and the gaze of someone who’s seen some things. She prefers silence, sunbeams, and dignity—and only tolerates affection when she initiates it. I suspect she naps through most of my Zoom meetings, but when she opens one eye, I behave.

🐾 Eddy

Titles: Eddy Spaghetti, Eddy Bear, Edward (when he’s being REALLY naughty).
Age: 3
Likes: Literally everything Merida likes—because she likes it. Also: being the center of attention.
Dislikes: Closed doors, being excluded, silence.
Superpower: Showing up just in time to step on my keyboard.

Eddy is energy in feline form. He’s affectionate, bold, a little unhinged, and entirely obsessed with Merida. If she finds a new nap spot, he finds it. If she grooms her tail, he grooms his. If she looks bored, he’ll his hardest to amuse her, which never works.

He thrives when all eyes are on him—and he knows how to work a room (or a Zoom). Eddy will do anything for a cameo, a cuddle, or a compliment. And somehow, he always gets them.

They bicker. They ignore each other. They secretly cuddle when no one’s watching.

This blog is part sanctuary, part story. These two are both.

So if you see paw prints in my posts or yarn pulled off-center in a photo, now you know who to thank. 🧶🐾

I’m Erika—

Civil rights attorney, crocheter, cat mama, wife, and a woman guided by deep faith.

By day, I advocate for students and families, using the law to challenge injustice in our schools.

When the day winds down, you’ll find me with yarn in my hands, a nice cup of Lady Grey tea, and Merida and Eddy, my two cats, supervising every stitch (or at least pretending to).

This blog is a reflection of the life I am weaving: one of purpose, creativity, rest, and grace. You’ll find stories of advocacy, moments of hope, feline antics, and cozy projects stitched between them all.

Thanks for being here. However you found your way, I hope you’ll feel at home.
